The Over-the-Rhine Foundation donated $33,000 to Cincinnati Public Schools to be used toward the installation of a rooftop garden at Rothenberg Preparatory Academy, as well as an elevator to provide handicap access. The garden will be used as a teaching laboratory for students and a gathering space for the community.
The rooftop garden will be installed as part of a full renovation of the Rothengerg school located at 241 E. Clifton Avenue in Over-the-Rhine. The school is currently operating in swing space at the old Vine Elementary School building at 2120 Vine Street.
The garden will complement the planned enlarged campus, including additional playground and green spaces. When the renovation is completed in the summer of 2012, Rothenberg Preparatory Academy will feature three stories and 102,378 square feet of space designed for 550 students.
This is the kind of news that brightens my day. I think the kids will love having the rooftop garden. It's best to expose them to the beauty of life early on in their lives. That was really nice of the Over-the-Rhine Foundation. More power to them!
